The first day of my trip I stayed at the Monte Carlo Las Vegas. After I flew in I took a cab from McCarran International Airport to the Monte Carlo Hotel Las Vegas. I was a little irritated by the cab driver who took me via interstate 15 instead of via Tropicana Ave. Instead of paying cab fare of around $13 bucks, it was about $19 before tip. I knew better but didn’t say anything. There is a lot of construction starting on some of the back streets around Las Vegas Blvd right now, so who knows what is the best route right now.
Once we pulled up to the Monte Carlo hotel in Las Vegas, I knew I was now officially in Vegas. The façade of the hotel is nice on the eyes and the name always reminds me of the James Bond films when he is at the “real” Monte Carlo. After a short wait, I was greeted at the hotel desk by a cute blonde who checked me in. Monte Carlo is part of MGM and this stay was fully comped. I was able to get three full nights although I needed just two, I took the third to give me an early check out before I moved on to the next hotel. Honestly, I don’t know why they sent me an offer for three free nights as I haven’t played very much with them. Since my usual hotel, Paris Las Vegas, was sold out the first night I needed it, I wasn’t about to question it. My hunch is that it was because the last time, I had paid a visit to the Monte Carlo, I won some cash instead of losing it.
We then went up to our room to check it out. The room was a standard two queen bed non-smoking room on the end. It did provide a little bit of a strip view of the MGM and of New York New York hotel and casino. You could hear the sounds of screams from the roller coaster over there which by the time we went to bed it was closed.
The rooms are OK at the Monte Carlo but nothing spectacular. It’s just a room. I don’t think that it had enough light. My main complaint with the room was the shower head didn’t put out enough water pressure and flashed hot and cold water when I used it.
After we got settled in, we then went down stairs and grabbed a bite to eat at a restaurant called the Café while we figured out whether we were going to gamble or not. A nice plus at the Café is that they serve breakfast 24 hours and so even though it was about 9 pm, that’s what we went with.
Since I was already a member of the MGM Mirage Players Club, that’s how I got my room offers, and had my card with me, I didn’t need to go to the Players Club to get a card so I was ready to gamble after we finished eating. However, if you don’t have a Players Club card, make that your first visit so that they can track your play. I can’t remember all of the hotels in the Players Club but my card shows the Bellagio, MGM Grand Las Vegas, The Mirage, Treasure Island (although I hear they are leaving MGM), and New York New York. You can find out more from playersclub.com.
My game of choice is craps so I headed to the craps table. The game wasn’t cold but it wasn’t hot either so I didn’t win or lose on this session which was fine. I mainly wanted to play to return the favor of the free nights offer promotion they gave me. The dealers were friendly and one in particular shared a story of how he had been dealing since the 70’s. I guess in those days they didn’t have an off button for your bets on the table when you didn’t’ want them working and would have to move all bets placed on the numbers in the come and then move them all back, a real headache.
The only other thing about my craps session worth noting is that it does provide some good scenery of all the hot girls walking through the casino floor and on this night there were a lot more than I thought there would be. So me and a few of the other players enjoyed that a lot. And when you see a couple of hot chicks holding hands walking past, it does catch your eye. Although I have to say that when I saw a couple of guys doing the exact same thing a few minutes later, it didn’t provide the same lusty mental picture the girls did for me. I think that there a lot of girls out because this week is spring break in Las Vegas and I think they were running some sort of special promotion for the spring break crowd.
Since I had to get up early the next day to fly to my job site, I didn’t stay up too late. My only hope was that I’d be able to get my work done early. I went to the room and retired for the night. Fortunately for me I was able to get my work done in one day instead of the normal two and was able to change my flight to come back on the same day.
My second day at the Monte Carlo Resort & Casino Las Vegas was pretty much the same as the first. I got in a little late in the evening, played some craps again while my girl played some video poker. We both had similar results as the first night. Then we called it a night and slept in the next morning.
The main show at the Monte Carlo is Lance Burton Master Magician show at the Lance Burton Theatre. While we didn’t see it on this visit, you can also visit Lance’s Magic Shop. I’ve always loved magic and magic shows, so I am not sure why I haven’t taken the time to see it.
We did however make a visit to the Monte Carlo pool area which was very nice. The weather was super when we went in March and not too busy so it was a perfect time to visit the pool. We also paid a visit to the Spa at Monte Carlo in Las Vegas.
Once we left the pool, we were a little hungry and decided to eat at the Café again for some more breakfast. We thought about eating at the Dragon Noodle Company or the food court or even better, the Monte Carlo Resort Las Vegas does have a nice steakhouse called Brand Steakhouse and Lounge. I have spent some time drinking and listening to music there when they’ve had a band playing but that was a few years ago. There is also a restaurant called Andres. You should also check out Diablo’s Cantina and the Monte Carlo Brew Pub.
After we finished eating, we took some pictures of the Monte Carlo Las Vegas and then checked out early to get to our next hotel we wanted to check out.
