Hello and welcome to Las Vegas by Thor. Over the years, I’ve made many trips to Las Vegas and while I am not a professional guide, I know a thing or two about how to have a good time. Sometimes, I’ve went over board in the fun department but you know what — that is exactly what you are supposed to do there, have a fantastic time in Las Vegas, NV.

My first trip out there was more of a research trip to see what was out there. Now after about fifteen to twenty trips, I am no longer a rookie visitor. I could show people around the town. I figured why do it in person. The internet is a perfect place to highlight the best things to do in Las Vegas. What’s great about Vegas is that it is open all day and all night long so you can party when and where you like for the most part. And, if you are not the partying type there is still alot to do. So, even if you are looking for things to do besides gambling, you can find a lot to do there.

If this is your first visit, what I suggest you do is book a room at a lower end Las Vegas hotel on the strip. My first choice was the Luxor. I liked the Luxor because of the Egyptian theme and it was close to the airport which meant the cab fare was a little cheaper and it was a little less likely that I’d get hung up in traffic or have the cab driver take me the long way to bump up his fare. The other thing that I liked about it was that it was on the the end of the strip.

Las Vegas offers some extraordinary sites.

After settling in to my room, I chose to take a walk on the strip up as far as I could go which ended up being to around the Mirage Hotel Las Vegas. On the way, I checked out Excalibur Las Vegas, New York New York, Monte Carlo Las Vegas, Bellagio and Caesars to name a few. It takes while to make the trek up the strip because you have to zig and zag and also check out the hotels along the way. Make note of the hotels you would like to stay at because that is where I suggest that you gamble. You want to get into the habit of gambling where you want to stay and I’ll explain why in a minute. Of all the hotels Las Vegas has to offer, my favorite is the Venetian so that was my target. My least favorite was the MGM Grand Las Vegas.

For now, though, I would continue up the strip on foot. I only went as far as Treasure Island Las Vegas before I finally turned around and crossed the street over to the Venetian and back. If you make the walk, make sure that you wear some good shoes to walk in and if you do it during the day make sure you wear some sunscreen because you can get sunburned. Remember that you can always catch a cab if you get tired. Don’t catch the cab on the street though, get one at the taxi stand of the nearest hotel you happen to be by.

Las Vegas at night is a beautiful site.

The hotels in Las Vegas have some great attractions. Some you’ll want to see on the way are the Luxor pyramid, the roller coaster at New York New York, the awesomeness of the Caesar’s Palace and the Fountains of Bellagio Las Vegas. On the other side, you’ll want to make sure you check out the gondola rides at the Venetian and the view from the Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas.

It will take you a good several hours to take that walk and on it I hope you made note of your favorite hotel because on your next outing what you should do is go to the hotel that you like and gamble there. When you get to that hotel, join up with the players card program that they have. Once you do that, make sure that whenever you gamble that you show your card. When you sign up also make sure that you give them your email address. What’s going to happen is that you once you get home you will start to get special Las Vegas hotel deals, offers and coupons. Some of these might be for free nights, or free cash. Any kind of Las Vegas packages you can score will help you have more to work with on your next trip.

I never thought that I gambled that much but maybe I do and the game I like to play is craps. For my last several visits, I have often gotten two to four nights comped at my favorite casino. I know that when I first started that I stayed at the Luxor and gambled at Paris. Then I got free offers from Paris. Once I stayed at Paris, then I started playing some at the Venetian. In the hotel I wasn’t staying in, I tried to win money there and leave even if I didn’t stay very long because I knew they would try and get me to come back so they could get there money back.

My strategy has paid off because the last time I went out there I stayed at the newest hotel out there, the Palazzo. The only problem was that they are starting to raise the table limits making it harder for me to play. The only place that this strategy hasn’t worked for me was at Wynn Las Vegas because they don’t give you a players card right away for some reason so I couldn’t get any offers. That was alright though as I hit a royal flush at the video poker machine there and went over to the Paris and gave some of it to them by playing casino war. That my friend is why they give you free drinks!

As far as shows go, I can recommend that you go to Anthony Cools The Uncensored Hypnotist. Beware though, he has some dirty humor. I’ve been so some girly show called Fantasy at the Luxor which was actually pretty good. Funny thing about that night is that I started to play craps before the show and got on huge roll. People at the table were professing their love for me it was great.

I’ve also checked out the Phantom of the Opera which everyone should do at least once and things like Tony & Tina’s Wedding which was a litte different but fun nonetheless.

Of course, there are the strip clubs and the swingers clubs there as well and yes, I’ve checked them out and believe I have already written some about those places on the site. If not, I’ll have to check and maybe write some more. And, the nightclub scene is something else and if you are clubber you’ll want to check out Tao for sure and if you are into the pool scene, Mandalay Bay Las Vegas is pretty awesome.

I can’t forget to talk about going downtown to Glitter Gulch but that will have to be for another time.

These are some of the things that I’ll cover here at Las Vegas by Thor. I’ll do my best to help you figure out what you want and need to do in Las Vegas. In the meantime, check out LasVegas.com and it’s companion Vegas.com. They have some good information as well.
